GPR87 (G Protein-Coupled Receptor 87) is an orphan GPCR that has been proposed to respond to lysophosphatidic acid (LPA), a bioactive lipid involved in cell proliferation and survival. GPR87 plays roles in cell growth, stress response, and tumor biology. GPR87 is expressed in various tissues, with particularly high expression in epithelial cells and certain cancer types, including lung, bladder, pancreatic, and squamous cell carcinomas. It is also found in normal tissues such as the skin and lungs, but at lower levels. GPR87 is considered a promising pharmacological target, especially in oncology. Its upregulation in multiple cancers and role in tumor cell survival and proliferation make it a candidate for cancer therapy. Inhibition of GPR87 has shown anti-tumor effects in preclinical models, though selective modulators are still in early development.
